Would someone be able to shed light on the “date codes” embossed on a spare tire in my trunk well?
Michelin TRX 220/55/VR390
End of the DOT is “464” which I interpret as either Nov 1984 or possibly 1994 however I believe the wheel (e22) and tire combo to be original to the car which has a 12/84 build date per the folks at BMW Group Historical. The real question for me to try to get an answer is also stamped on the tire is another code, looks to be a date code, of TB 126 06-88-01. Anyone know what this “TB” code is advising?
Thanks in advance.

Michelin TRX tire code ?
Re: Michelin TRX tire code ?
Looks like 46th week of 1984. Don’t know about the other code.
Re: Michelin TRX tire code ?
Maybe this is a clue....

Re: Michelin TRX tire code ?
The 220mm TRX was not standard on any E28 in the US market. That was the size used on the E23 and E24 when they made the switch from the 14" wheels. And those models used a forged wheel vs the cast variant for the E28 and the appearance is different, although very similar.
It seems you are trying to ascertain the originality of your car and it doesn't seem to be factory equipment on a US spec 1985 535i. I'd guess the wider 220 tires replaced the original 200mm one on the factory wheels or the wheel/tire was swapped in the past.

Re: Michelin TRX tire code ?
Thank you all for your TRX input.....good info for sure. Though owner of an '88 M5 and '83 533i (M106) the TRX info I sought / seek is with respect to a recently acquired '85 m635csi (Justin, spot on!). I should have noted that from the get go. The date code code "464" I've / we've solved for being either Nov '84 or Nov '94 DOP. The other number I was curious about is TB 126 06-88-01 also stamped on the sidewall and separate of the DOT date coding area. Any ideas on this?
