Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
I have been trying to find out how many or if there are any other E28's still running the original K-Jetronic in the USA? Does anyone know of another early E28 still running with that and where in the US? Mine is an 82 520i still running strong on that system and I'm very interested to find another.

Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Boy does the engine bay look better with the intake on that side.
I wonder if that intake manifold works on the M30B34?

Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
No it will not. 520i's are M20 powered, not M30. Similar, but different, the "baby 6."
Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Ahh my mistake. The different intake manifold compared to the M20 in the E30 threw me off.

An M30 mani can be drilled and tapped.Panici wrote: Sep 26, 2022 7:46 AM Boy does the engine bay look better with the intake on that side.

It's been done before for turbo builds I believe.

I sure would like to see a picture of that, it sounds like it could give a unique look to the engine bay.
Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Lots of pics have been posted here on the forums. First two search results here have pics. It’s usually done to give more room on the exhaust side for a top mount turbo and keeping intercooler piping away from the hot side of the head.

Hello, not in USA but I have an euro 1983 e28 518i K Jet running ok, recently serviced by myself.
Greetings,

Thanks, I'll bet there's not many K-Jet E28's in Chile either? By the silence it seems like running K-Jet 5 series are somewhat a unicorn these days. If you are able to post a pic or 2 please feel free to show us.Aldo525 wrote: Sep 26, 2022 6:45 PM Hello, not in USA but I have an euro 1983 e28 518i K Jet running ok, recently serviced by myself.

Very cool to see, and especially such a clean E28! I don't think there were many to begin with, as only the first two years of the 520i used K-jet according to Wikipedia. Hopefully it stays running well! I would think some repair parts might be near impossible to get these days.
The early K-jet 518i is an odd-ball too, from what I've read years ago it was only sold in a select few countries where the 518 offered elsewhere couldn't meet emissions requirements (mainly Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Japan w/ automatic). I think for these markets they had an EGR system. Then about 1984/1985 the L-jet 518i like mine came out to replace both.

Hello Motronic and Justin_FL!!....sorry by this slow reply, I was on holidays
And yes, my 518i is Sweden version, came here to Chile at earlies 90's. I believe here is the only one...to my market was only 518 carburetor and starting from 1984 was LJetronic. Fortunatelly the K Jet is the same as e21 318i and 320i (idem USA market) and also used largely in VW golf Mk1 so in USA and Germany there are spare parts for maintenance, o'rings, banjo bolts, plates, etc....and a lot of youtube tutorials on how to service DIY. Is a very special system, not easy but is working very well in my case.

I tried to add some pictures but I cant.....just put the img symbol....how should it be done?

You have to host the image somewhere like Flickr or Imgur, then copy the embed link and put that in the img tag. See here: viewtopic.php?f=1&p=1443199#p1443199

Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Very cool to see those early systems. I have the small radiator as the 518 has. You being in Chile and not seeing anyone else chime in makes me wonder if this is the only e28 stateside still running KJet?Aldo525 wrote: Nov 08, 2022 12:50 PM Some pictures on the "fleet"....e28 525i burgunrot M30B25 LJet, e28 518i opalgrün M10B18 KJet

Feel free to post a couple more pics of the cars, we love to see pics here! I am particular to Opalgrun myself.
Re: Any Euro K-Jet E28's still around?
Maybe is the only one K Jet e28 4 cylinders, not sure if some 520i K jet is still alive here. Almost all survivors e28 are 84+, L Jet. Anyway not many e28 arrived here and most were 518i and 520i but with L Jet. But several e21 323i (6 cylinders, 2,300 cc M20B23 engine) with K Jet arrived.Motronic wrote: Nov 27, 2022 5:54 AMVery cool to see those early systems. I have the small radiator as the 518 has. Some other pictures of the car

An the interior upholstery: Pienengrün (pine green). Is a green cloth, just the driver seat it is torn, but still usable. I'm trying to find some meters of this cloth to repair the damages but till today cant find it.

And a question: Your instrument cluster have tachometer or what??...Mine originally comes with a big clock, tried to "improve" to a clock plus econometer but I made a miscalculation: K Jet system doesn't have a signal to feed that econometer (like L Jet or Motronic does), so for now I only have the clock and a stopped econometer.

Just a tach as no ECU in car also.

As far as I know Aldo this is it in the US still driving on K-Jet, I've not found another yet.

Hi there,
I have a 1982 BMW E28 520i (K-Jetronic) that I am trying to fix. All the vacuum lines have been disconnected and I am trying to figure out how they are connected. Any help would be welcome.
Thanks
Joel

A picture would be helpful. I've got some K jet experience from US spec E21s so I might be able to help with a pic. Might. But you will probably have more luck on an E21 or maybe an E30 forum as I think they got more of the small 6 K jet engines.
