When I look at the dealer's Dutch website, they can be ordered as a back order.

I don't think the color of the original mats with the dead pedal cover actually Matched the color of the car carpet but more went well with that color. Slight differences in shade of the colors was possible. Not familiar with all the different colors but for pacific that was true.

For anthrazit, might just look for the best match you can get or go with a complementary color. Many have use the darker color mats on lighter colored interiors.

Are you now on the hunt for the dead pedal version or a good quality mat in a nice color that works well with your interior?

Now that I hear the stories that the dead pedal cover does not stay in place I don't need it anymore. Now remember what that looked like. It was always flaccid and very ugly depending on where it was placed. See photo how beautifully the original mat matches the carpet.

Just to let you know, the heel pad on those looks nothing like any mat we ever got here in the USA. If you're matching BMW OE carpet texture, you should look for what BMW used to call plush velour mats. The heel pad ours had was a harder piece of carpet with a shorter nap, fused to the main mat. Problem was that section would detach after a while and catch on your feet. I prefer mats without a heel pad, just like modern BMW mats.

Thanks for the info. But as I said I want to keep it as original as possible. As an alternative, I can always look at other mats.

What I found out today is that I don't have any mounting clips in the car. Only the driver's mat has 2 fastening clips. I see that all original E28 mats have a recess for the fixings. How do we explain this?

Probably explained by newer designs have clips/clip locations on mats to protect the seller from lawsuits from a mat getting stuck in the pedals if it comes loose. This causing lack of braking or unintended acceleration leading to the lawsuit.

Our cars didn't come with fixing locations.

There are many that were once available and still a number available. Need to contact vendors and ask for samples to see what will be a perfect color match in your eyes. Discuss with them the possibility of getting mats without holes in them or options to put clips in your car.

Gotta be a lot of options out there but way less than in the 90s when our cars were still popular and folks were buying new stuff like mats for them.

With all this research you are doing, I am definitely looking forward to your comments when you finally select the mats for your car.

I will definitely drop my experience. Although it will be a long search. Thanks for thinking along.

Any updates on this? Whatever did you do for mats? I’m looking for mats myself. I’ve ordered custom Lloyd mats for a previous Porsche I’ve owned and they were great. Had the model name embroidered. However it seems Llyods will no longer embroider bmw model names on the mats.
