Euro e24 resurrection (update 10/2/24)

I've had this 81 635csi in bodywork limbo for five years now, it always gets set aside do to other projects or having no funds or both. I've almost sold or parted it out many times but could never bring myself to do it since it has a special place in my cold dead heart.

I made up my mind that this year has to be the year I get the bodywork done and at least into sealer so I don't have to worry about it getting surface rust from fingerprints or humidity.

So, over the last month or so in my spare time I've slowly been going panel to panel working on the final details of making it super straight and gapping all the panels, the main reason it's not done is because of my obsession with making things straighter than they should be. I figure I have another 100ish hours til it's in primer which will be a huge milestone for this boat anchor.

Getting the hood pad goo removed. Worst job ever.



After about an hour of work. Rags, thinner and finger tips. I got super high on lacquer thinner which I always enjoy.

At this point you may be too far into it, but these eraser wheels are amazing. I got about 1/2 of the foam off my 635 hood until I tried one of these.

I've used them, I don't trust it for this since they potentially create a lot of heat.

They do create a lot of heat and spread that crap around. I have had excellent luck with the 3M adhesive cleaner in the can.

I got 99.9% of it removed today. Very messy job.

I did end up using an eraser wheel along with thinner to soften the glue, still took about three hours going slowly to not heat up the panels. This is the most stubborn one I've ever done.

It's an e30, it's pretty self explanatory. That's all I have to say about that... Back to my box of chocolates.

If thats an 81 shouldn't it have the wrap around rear bumpers? It looks like it has the earlier rear. I'm happy you are on the e24 and not the touring Nice work on the rust.

I'm pretty sure 81 is the last year of the early rear bumper.
