More great questions. I do enjoy the honesty of a young person's questioning, and try to keep encouraging.

As for this:

Jeezus, for as many great writeups as jalopnik has, they balance it out with postings by people with no credibility whatsoever. Maybe they just throw shit together to let the comments section do their editing and proofing?

Like this, no BMW. Really? :blah:

Tonight, stuck behind a fish truck in a traffic standstill. It was leaking goo from its rear doors and I thought I was totally going to spew, the smell was so bad. I was <this> close. No, really. <ths> close. Maybe <ts> close.
Bored and ready to spew, I opened the glove box to maybe/finally read the manual and get my onboard computer to stop speaking Canadian and what do I spy? Why yes, that is a warm Heineken from New Years!! I totally did not spew.

Coming home last night traffic on the freeway started to stop. Nothing new, the economy is improving. And I learned two things. At least one car, not mine, does not have ABS but does have flat spotted tires. The cloud of smoke that went up was impressive, but surely cheaper than body damage. But best rubber cloud I've ever seen. :haul: Still stunk when I went thru it 30 seconds later.

I did that in my 533i once with tires that had less than 500 miles on them. Driving on I-10 coming out of the tunnel getting ready to merge onto I-17. This Honda accord starts quickly merging into my lane at my left front wheel so I hit the brakes and layer on the horn. Kept moving over then he/she stood on her brakes while doing it. Got down to ~20mph from about 70 and I was in a giant cloud of smoke in a black car with weak tail lamps. Seems that once I was practically stopped, the other car sped off. It took 1200 miles for the vibration to subside. Then about a week later, someone slammed on their brakes for someone who was giving real thought to considering crossing the street. Locked them up at 10 mph. The vibration was still there when I sold the car.

I'm a huge fan of ABS. I know how to modulate the pedal and everything but I'd much prefer to have it.

Being a minotaur, and a close relative of the centaur, I can answer that question from a scientific as well as grown-up recreational perspective. Tell him to call me for details on the former, and the latter when he is older... but I'm NOT giving his t-shirt (tube-top for him nowadays) back! :)

There's a familial relation between a minotaur and a centaur? I dont see it myself, but I suppose you've got some details on how that happened...

He says you can enjoy the t-shirt. I think the hormones are beginning to kick in; he's starting to care about how he looks, and that tight t-shirts are great on girls, but aren't flattering on guys like him. ;)

My work van sniffs the air we're traveling through. I smell bad transmissions, clutches stuck brakes, anti freeze. Lotsa diesel. Occasional pot or perfume.

No, but my bet would be on the mouse for most views and the Buyer/Seller feedback monstrosity for most comments probably.

My neighbor just came over and invited me to a BBQ. It's going to be a bunch of car dudes standing around talking about cars. That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. :)

I think the only thing to do is to put on my St Paddy's shirt, do 5 or 12 shots of tequila and go over and let them know that they're all driving piles of shit.

You go, Chas.

We're at a wedding reception tonight, and the dj had a pretty unique music set playing during dinner; one of the selections was Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody played on a ukulele. That was, um, different. This is pretty close: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPQ1z5FoqQ

That van wouldn't happen to be equipped with a Sniffmaster 9000, would it?

I DID end up going next door for the party and I'll admit I was kinda nervous. I grabbed a beer and joined a group that was talking waxing/detailing and after about ten minutes, it was just like the Group W Bench. Everything continued to go pretty well until it got dark and some of the guys were turning on their headlamps to show their color coordinated bulbs. The guy with the purple paint job had purple bulbs and the guy with the yellow paint job, well you get the idea. You know those old Hollywood westerns where there's a crowded saloon with all kinds of hootin', hollerin' and a guy playing Honky Tonk piano and then the bad guy walks in and everything goes totally quiet? That's how it was when I said the colored bulbs were "totally ricer and probably illegal".
I stood there for what seemed like an hour and then looked at my empty wrist and said "whoaa, how did it get so late..."

This has to be the most brilliantly hilarious ad for a toilet I've ever seen. FWIW - we have American Standards in our house. Even the water saver one flushes like a champ. Actually, that one flushes the best out of the whole lot.

Someone posted that on FB last week; I about lost it at the end!

We have an Eljer Titan Pro (gotta love the names they give these things!) in the main floor bathroom at our house. The sales collateral on it claimed it could handle 24 golf balls in a single flush. We haven't tried that, but it handles other stuff with no problems whatsoever. Except the rapid flush rate causes other problems elsewhere in the house...
(no, I haven't fixed that yet; not at all excited about plumbing, especially when it involves cutting holes in concrete.)
