1985 e28 535i restoration build

Post by 6h0st »

Hey guys names Brentt and im from Canada, just wanted to make a thread with my 85 535i that I just picked up last month. This is my first E28 build, left the Honda scene for something more exciting lol.

This is when I first picked her up... First owner, well maintained and couldn't walk away from a $600 deal. I think he sold it for so cheap because the car wouldnt run...Friend said it was the relay and fuel filter...Replaced the fuel pump relay and fuel filter and the car ran mint:) Friends e32 behind the e28

E28 finally home:)

friends checking out the car

Took out front and back seat to see the damage underneath the carpet...

And this is what i found :(

Driver side

Let the restoration begin. Started cutting out all the rusted out floors.

Image
Driver side. Had to cut the bracket part for the gas pedal, still have to cut the rocker panel side just waitting for a nice day so i could do it outside and not worry about cutting any fuel or brake lines

Image
got bored so i brought my carpet to a coin carwash and pressured washed the shit out of it, came out really good....

Image
JDM? LoL

Ive seene many people do the bumper tuck so i decided to try it out today..

Image
bumper out!

Tuckedddd

Looks so much nicer

What do you guys think of the style 5?

Thats it for now, I will probably be putting in the floors for the passenger side and patching up the fire wall.. I will continue updating this thanks for checking out my build...

Image
last car i had lol

Quick little update of what ive been up to. I almost got all the floors done i will post pictures in the next few days...Ive decided to pick up a turbo for my car, just becuase my civic was turbo and "once you go turbo you can never go back"

Image

Took her out, I need to lower her asap!! Coilovers or custom coilovers?...
Image

Test fitting the turbo. My friend with a turboed e32 said i could reuse the old mani folds to mount the turbo on. He built the manifold in a couple of hours it looks SICKK!!will post pictures of it later
Image

Went to the junkyard and found this:(:(
Image

Just a little update with this build...

Great start. I just got done with all of my rust. Yours seems a little worse. You'll find more as you keep taking things off. Main thing is to not give up. That's the hardest part.
Good luck and have fun with it.

Keep up the interesting work. Only question is when tucking the bumpers, why did you have to take them off? Could have just drilled the bumper shocks, then driven the car up to a brick wall and pushed them in that way. Enlighten me on your process. I'm sure there are several different ways of doing it.

thanks man, yeah only way to drill them is to take it off lol theres no space to drill if you keep the bumper on...and i just kicked the bumper in didnt have to drive into a tree or wall ahahah.

lol yeah only thing about canada is the amount of salt they put down here in winter:( pretty much all the rust sports were what i took a pic of,and just gotta reinforce the jack mounts and the rust repair is pretty much done...then i can starting doing more fun stuff with the e28:)

I bought a smoker's car recently...and I took the interior apart to try to get the cigarette stink out as much as I could. I have a power washer, and I power washed the carpet...It worked well and it was fun seeing all the black shit running out of the carpet.
