No, the B35 was never a stock motor in an E28 anywhere. It was used in E34s, E32s, and E24s and was the final swan song for BMW's infamous M30 engine when it was retired in 1994. The easiest conversion can be done with an early E34 motor or an E24 one as they should have the correct mounting points to bolt straight onto the E28. However somewhere there's a bracket you can buy to make all of them fit.

There's also this super awesome thread on the topic over in Tech Talk:

You're a little late to the party Rodney- look up a few posts ;)
Yeah I think I pulled up this page and then helped with the baby and then got distracted and did something else. When I came back I forgot to check and see if anything new had gone down and just finished my response and clicked submit.

Buying a car won't help you grow up. I recommend you cut off any support your parents are giving you. Go explore the world, experience things outside your microcosm. Go places where you know your comfort level will be encroached upon, socialize with people who will unabashedly force you into situations you'd never find on your own. Make mistakes, then learn from them. Get the most blue collar job you can possibly find, and learn what it is to be humble. Donate your time to a charitable organization to learn humility. Find someone who can challenge you mentally, so you can learn concentration and focus. Teach someone, so that you can learn patience. Learn a trade. Chase your dreams, kid. Don't let your reputation drag you down, and don't think you have to let it change you, you can change it.

And before you ask, that black button left of the steering column on the kick panel, that's the circuit breaker for the windows, seriously.

LOL, this is why I love this forum.

Congrats on the purchase Whitey. You'll never be a honda kid again. You now own a car with a history. Treat it as such and continue to record it's story.

Just let us know if you need any help, say fixin' that cap of yours. Rolling a ball cap is an art. ;)

Thanks fellas!
I just reread part of this and got a pretty good laugh of it.

I still own an old Civic that I plan on swapping and building so the E28 will most likely stay stock for awhile.

I also must admit on my drive home from work tonight, I couldnt figure out for the life of me why the heat was blowing ice cold from the dash. As I smacked myself in the head I remembered this thread and it saying that the center vents NEVER blow hot.

P.S.
I just owned the shift key in this post ;)

I don't think so.

Mr. white chocolate, congrats on your purchase. Looks like you got yourself a great car there.

I thought it was the head casting that was prone to cracking? Not as bad as the e12 stuff, but much more prone to cracking than the b34 for whatever reason. The blocks (to my understanding) are just as robust as any other m30 block.
Nope. Paul Burke went through 3 (or maybe more) B35 blocks when he was looking for a good one for cvillebimmer. X rays showed cracking. George's 535i B35 block cracked, too, and that was without FI. According to PB, the 88 castings are good (the ones that are compatible with the E24/28) but the later ones are no good.
Paul explained to me that the cylinder bores can be off-center slightly in B35s. This causes uneven expansion due to heat and can cause cracks at the cylinders. He said you can be pretty sure the block will be OK if the wall thickness on the left and right side of the cylinders is the same.
