How do I get a car from the Midwest to the West Coast?
I am trying to sell a car, but traditional shipping cost is more than the car is worth. Any ideas how to get a car from Missouri to California?

Drive it but gas is 250 and then hotel rooms and a flight home all add up.

I would ask a different question: How does the buyer get their new car to the West Coast? Are they adverse to a road trip?

There have been some threads over the years about shipping a car and the numbers were much less than I would have expected. Now I've never used them, but it might be worth searching a bit if you haven't already. Seems like a couple of quirks are it has to be empty, ie not a trunk or interior full of stuff, and they have to be able to drive it under it's own power on and off the truck.

What may have cost $1200-$1800 a few years ago is now 2 or 2.5X probably.
I'd look for private coast to coast haulers that make a drop on one coast and don't want to go back empty. They pick up or schedule pickups on the way home. Takes a little longer in transit but more cost effective.
That worked for me about 4 years ago. Cost me $850 to bring in a car from GA.

I shipped a car last spring from California to Ohio for $1000. I know it was LAST spring, but still.

I have used that site several times, always with good luck.

Drive it, tow it, or ship it.
If you're selling the car let the buyer figure it out.
I'm not understanding this question...

I know of a couple independent haulers who have had good feedback on the Pontiac forum that I moderate:

my thoughts exactly. shipping should never be on the seller... unless there's something we've missed?Shawn D. wrote: Mar 27, 2023 11:02 AM I would ask a different question: How does the buyer get their new car to the West Coast? Are they adverse to a road trip?

Several potential buyers were stopped because of shipping costs. Someone finally managed to find a deal at $1000 from Missouri to California.
